A 3 12 roof pitch angle is about 14 so on and so forth. There are some standing seam metal roofing options available from atas and other manufacturers that can be installed on a roof with pitch of 1 12. Anything above 6 12 is a steep roof pitch since it becomes harder to walk on the roof. First of all they require less material and therefore cost less.

This pitch might be as low as 1 12. This measurement is best done on a bare roof because curled up roofing shingles will impair your measurement. Low pitched roofs also have some definite advantages in certain situations.

Pitches above 9 12 are very highly angled and are designated steep slope roofs. Think of a classic addams family haunted house with its soaring peaks and you have a picture of a high pitched roof. 4 12 is quite typical. The most commonly used roof pitches fall in a range between 4 12 and 9 12.

The picture below shows the pitch of a 7 12 roof slope meaning that for 12 of horizontal measurement roof run the vertical measurement roof rise is 7. Pitches of less than 2 12 are considered flat roofs even though they may be very slightly angled. Roofs on victorian era houses were often sharply angled with a steep pitch.
